Escaping the FireWire DMA attack

Modern computers often profit from Direct Memory Access (DMA). Today even FireWire uses it for faster transmission to external devices (read: hard disks). The only problem is: this could be a security flaw.

Why I Love the English Language, Part II

Because there is no German word for blowjob. Isn't this sad?

Spoiler: There is, but it roughly translates to Oral Intercourse, which is simply not funny. Or exciting. Or sounding like anything you'd want to have.

Pimping Rights

As I started my blog, I also had to choose the right license for the stuff I publish. Since I am an avid opposer of the idea of copyrights, I knew from the beginning, it would be a Creative Commons license.

Blogging from TextMate - finally

My favorite text editor is TextMate, as some of you might know.

And yet, until today I was not able to use the Blogging API built in to this great text editor. I always got the error ' Blog API module is not configured to support the 0 content type'. That bugged me quite a bit. So what to do? Google wasn't helpful at all.
In the end, a lexical analysis of the source code was the way to let me find the problem:

What I will be doing this saturday

One of my all-time favorite comics is xkcd. Its humor strikes me quite well. Today's comic about geohashing (not to be confused with another hobby of mine, geocashing, a GPS assisted scavenger hunt) is finally something I really have to try. So, if the weather is right, I'll be going out next saturday and look where this day will lead me.

I'll take my camera with me so expect pics.

iPod

iPod

A bad pun in German.

Why I Love the English Language, Part I

Because the wikipedia article of crossdressing during wartime is called list of female military persons disguised as a man in German.

English has more style in stating facts. 'nuff said.

CCTV Music Video

A blessed Whitsuntide to you all!

On fleeing the hot sun, I stumbled upon another creative abuse of CCTV cameras.

Reutterian Prime Numbers

After 35 hours of calculation, my impatience played a trick on me once again.

Remember yesterday's post? 'Course you do! Well, as I found out now, 11,111,111,111,111,111,111,111 is a prime number. Shouldn't be strange at all, since it consists of 23 ones.

But when checking the lower numbers of that form to be sure I got the smallest one, of course I found another one, which computed significantly faster (and I'd like to dedicate this number to a friend of mine).
